Hot Topics - The View from the Bridge: HR Leaders Tell it Like it Is (and Will Be!)
Trends in workforce management come and go, but senior-level HR executives are expected to be conversant in both the traditional and cutting edge strategies. Our four panelists represent an array of industries and sectors; they lead HR efforts in enterprises from small start-ups to large, major corporations. But all of them face the challenge of defining their roles in the face of pressures, unanticipated issues and hard choices:
- What is the right balance for positioning HR between core people skills and "evidence-based HR"?
- With limited resources, what skill sets do we need on our teams today and for tomorrow? How do we attract those individuals to our organizations?
- How do we utilize and address statistical analysis, digital communication, visual thinking, numerical reasoning, organizational design, robotics implications, employee experience design and talent attraction, development and retention?
- How are we/will we deal with contingent workers? How do we need to change how we assess performance, develop and speed up team building with this constituency? How do we stay focused in the face of unexpected turmoil?
Lisa Britt, Senior Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer, Thermo Fischer Scientific
Lisa joined Thermo Fischer Scientific in March 2017 as Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer, responsible for leading our global Human Resources strategy and operations. She joined Thermo Fisher after six years with Nexeo Solutions, a Texas-based global leader in the distribution of plastics and chemicals, where she served as Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer. Prior to Nexeo, Lisa worked for Covidien, a $10 billion global leader in healthcare products. During her 13-year tenure, she served in a number of HR senior leadership roles, most recently as Vice President, Global Human Resources.
Beth Grous, Chief People Officer, Trip Advisor
Beth Grous is the Chief People Officer at TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel site, enabling travelers to plan and book the perfect trip. Beth is responsible for leading TripAdvisor’s global Human Resources, Real Estate and Office Experience teams, and she also sits on the Board of Directors of the TripAdvisor Charitable Foundation. Prior to joining TripAdvisor in 2015, Beth was SVP, Human Resources at Nuance Communications, a global provider of speech and imaging solutions. Beth also has extensive experience in the biopharmaceutical sector, having spent 12 years in senior HR leadership roles at Genzyme and then at Sanofi, following the acquisition of Genzyme. Her experience also includes HR leadership positions in the retail, consumer products, and managed services industries. Beth earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Cornell University.
Jill Larsen, SVP, Human Resources & Talent Acquisition, Cisco
Jill Larsen is Senior Vice President, HR & Talent at Cisco. She globally leads both Cisco’s Talent Acquisition function and HR for Cisco’s Services organization. Her team creates next-gen talent insights for Cisco and is spearheading the roll-out of Cisco’s Talent Cloud ecosystem. Jill is a visionary and change agent with extensive experience establishing and transforming HR functions. As a collaborative leader, Jill believes that disruptive, technology-driven programs are the foundation of HR strategy and overall business growth. She is passionate about building amazing teams and fostering strong relationships among key stakeholders.
Theo Proukou, VP and Head of HR, Rubius Therapeutics
Theo Proukou joined Rubius as Vice President & Head of Human Resources in August 2017. He brings to Rubius more than 20 years of experience in the pharma, biotech and tech industries. He spent 16 years at Novartis Pharmaceuticals holding numerous roles with increasing responsibilities in Human Resources, Marketing and Sales. In 2014, Theo joined Vertex Pharmaceuticals leading the HR team for Commercial and G&A. In 2015, he was promoted to Vice President of Talent Acquisition and Development where he led efforts to recruit, retain and develop talent across the organization. In 2016, Theo joined TripAdvisor, where he led the global HR Business Partner organization until joining Rubius.
Theo holds a MBA in Marketing & Management, a M.S. in Education for Counseling & Psychology and a B.A. in Journalism & Mass Communication. All of his degrees are from St. Bonaventure University.
